ABOUT ANNIE

I’m Annie Liao (rhymes with “meow”!) and I live in Los Angeles.

I think one of the best ways to get to know someone is in the details, so here are a few about me through the lenses of the people who know me best.

My husband might tell you that I am living up to my history degree potential as our family historian. I’ve always been motivated to preserve the moments we don’t want to forget in pictures, words and a growing postcard collection from our escapades. He might also mention that I love Thanksgiving — so much so that we have to celebrate it at least twice a year with as many side dishes as possible– and this year three times! It’s the kind of tradition I can really get behind. Also, he knows better than anyone that I take an above average number of photos of squirrels.

My best friends would tell you that they are never surprised when I have odd and amusing run-ins with strangers at the grocery store, on public transportation, or on museum tours. I am not a fiction writer, but I am beginning to think I could craft a novel purely with character sketches of people I’ve met on museum tours. Oh, yeah. I love tours. I will go on a tour of anything. You’ll probably hear more about my favorite recommendations as I share more on the blog. And speaking of sharing ideas, my friends might also tell you that I love planning adventures and date nights for others. It’s one of my favorite hobbies.

My family would tell you that they don’t hold it against me *too much* that the baby turtle I brought home with me when I was in fourth grade lived in our living room for over twenty years — until we found him a new home, where he will soon be swimming in a large tank at the Cleveland Natural History Museum! They’d also tell you that my entire life I’ve had lots to say and lots of ideas to share, and I should do something about that.

So, I am doing something about that. I hope this space can be a place to share, learn and grow for me and you. Thanks for joining me, I’m so glad you’re here!

STAY SPRITELY

In the stories and ideas shared here, I hope to inspire you to make more room in your life for things like play, adventure, wonder, and connecting with the people you care about most!

‘Spritely’ — an archaic but much more fun spelling of the word ‘sprightly’ — means “full of life”, “full of vim and vigor”, “lively”. Truth be told, I don’t always feel that way. Sometimes, I flat out feel stuck in a rut, consumed by the responsibilities and challenges of life.

So, I’m constantly taking a step back to gain some perspective and remind myself to live this life I have to the fullest. I’d love to share with you what I’m learning along the way and in the process, introduce you to some of the spritely-est people I know!

The best way to keep in touch is to sign up for the Stay Spritely e-newsletter. Once or twice a month, you’ll receive fresh encouragement in your inbox, along with a round-up of the most popular recent posts. And as a cherry on top, when you subscribe you’ll get your free copy of The Spritely List Guide, so you can create your very own.
